I had a quick idea for an exercise that could be really useful in understanding more about design processes. Many of us only interact with others in the same field as us on a day to day basis, and thus we are only familiar in certain design strategies. I propose that we go out and interview people from different fields on how they create, whether it be a letterhead design, or a robotic design. This simple exercise may yield interesting and shocking results that cause us to reevaluate our own thought. Going a step further, I believe it would be meaningful to silently watch someone in another field as they take the first steps to a design problem. It would be interesting to comment afterward on what you observed to the designer himself.
Just a brief idea!

Yes, let’s do this! (both versions…) I’d really like (in the future) to extend the reach of the design thinking seminar to include designers of all stripes…
